Job Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Substation Design Engineer for our Renewable Energy Projects (ISTS/Captive) with 6-10 years of experience in substation design for renewable energy projects, preferably in solar/wind energy. The candidate will be responsible for the design and engineering of EHV Substations up to 400kV for solar and wind projects. The role requires a strong background in substation electrical design, detailed engineering, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and compliant project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Site Assessment:
- Lead the front-end, preliminary, and detailed design of EHV substations for renewable energy projects (Solar PV/Wind).
- Prepare and review Single Line Diagrams (SLD), layout plans, AC & DC SLDs, and detailed engineering documents for substations.
- Conduct electrical calculations for earthing systems, lightning protection, illumination design, and other critical substation components.
- Prepare RFPs for EHV substations (ISTS/Captive Renewable EPC Packages).
- Conduct in-depth GIS/AIS substation design up to 400kV, including equipment sizing, layout design, and auxiliary system design.
- Perform engineering calculations for battery sizing, CT & VT sizing, MV & LT cables, auxiliary transformer sizing, etc.
- Review and finalize technical documentation such as Bill of Materials (BOM) and technical data sheets.
- Collaborate with vendors to resolve technical queries and review equipment specifications.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all substation engineering designs comply with local, state, and CTU regulations and relevant codes.
- Work closely with regulatory authorities to secure necessary permits and approvals for substation construction by preparing and submitting relevant drawings.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with electrical, civil, structural, and other engineering disciplines to integrate substation designs seamlessly into overall project plans.
- Work with project management to coordinate interdisciplinary efforts and address challenges that arise during project execution.
- Develop and implement electrical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the project and construction teams to follow.
- Quality Assurance:
- Oversee quality assurance processes for EHV substation engineering deliverables, ensuring designs meet industry standards and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular design reviews and audits to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure compliance with standards.
- Project Oversight:
- Assist in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting for EHV substation engineering activities.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement strategies to mitigate issues during the design and execution phases.
Challenges & Job Context:
- Improve the cycle time of substation engineering and design deliverables.
- Contribute to cost and resource optimization while maintaining quality.
- Stay updated on evolving technology and design practices to enhance substation performance.
- Ensure efficient coordination between design, procurement, and construction teams for timely project execution.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
· Proficient in GIS/AIS substation design up to 400kV.
· Experience in electrical calculations for substation components (battery sizing, conductor sizing, surge impedance, etc.).
· Familiarity with CBIP/IS/IEC/CEA standards and regulations.
· Expertise in design software and engineering tools.
Skills Required:
- Strong knowledge in Substation Design for renewable energy projects.
- Experience with GIS and AIS Substations up to 400kV.
- Proficiency in detailed engineering (SLD, layout, earthing, etc.).
- Ability to manage and execute RFP preparation, vendor coordination, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- Leadership qualities to implement and ensure quality assurance and continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk mitigation in EPC projects.
