The Plant Head will lead the complete setup and operations of the greenfield solar module manufacturing plant, ensuring successful project execution, commissioning, and stable commercial production. The role will be responsible for driving manufacturing excellence across production, engineering, quality, supply chain and plant administration while ensuring high productivity, operational efficiency, quality compliance, and cost optimization. The position requires strong leadership experience in large manufacturing environments along with expertise in greenfield plant setup, technology transfer coordination, and lean team building.
Key Responsibilities
Greenfield Plant Setup & Commissioning
- Lead end-to-end greenfield plant setup including civil coordination, utility readiness, machinery installation, commissioning, and production ramp-up.
- Coordinate with Chinese technical collaborators, OEMs, EPC contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders for smooth project execution.
- Ensure timely completion of project milestones and commercial production readiness.
Manufacturing Operations
- Manage complete solar module manufacturing operations including production planning, process efficiency, yield improvement, and productivity enhancement.
- Ensure achievement of production targets, OEE, throughput, and operational KPIs.
- Drive operational stability during initial production and future expansion phases.
Engineering, Utilities & Maintenance
- Oversee engineering, utilities, automation, and maintenance functions to ensure high equipment uptime and plant reliability.
- Ensure efficient operation of HT/LT systems, HVAC, compressors, chillers, DG systems, and clean room infrastructure.
- Drive preventive and predictive maintenance systems across the plant.
Quality & Process Excellence
- Ensure compliance with IEC, BIS, customer, and export quality standards.
- Establish process controls, SOPs, traceability systems, and quality assurance practices.
- Drive yield improvement, rejection reduction, and process optimization initiatives.
Cost Optimization & Lean Operations
- Build and manage a lean and scalable organization structure with optimum manpower utilization.
- Lead cost optimization initiatives across production, utilities, manpower, consumables, and operational overheads.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing, TPM, OEE improvement, and continuous improvement practices.
Supply Chain & Commercial Coordination
- Monitor procurement, inventory, warehouse, logistics, and PPC functions for uninterrupted operations.
- Coordinate with supply chain teams for timely availability of raw materials and consumables.
Leadership & Team Management
- Build and lead cross-functional teams across manufacturing operations.
- Develop strong execution culture, workforce discipline, and employee engagement practices.
- Manage industrial relations and contractor workforce effectively.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with EHS, statutory, factory, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain safe manufacturing practices and strong compliance systems across the facility.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
- 15+ years of experience in manufacturing operations.
- Strong experience in greenfield plant setup and manufacturing leadership roles.
- Prior experience in solar module manufacturing preferred.
- Experience in high-volume automated manufacturing environments preferred.
- Strong expertise in plant operations and production management.
- Experience in solar module manufacturing processes and quality systems.
- Knowledge of engineering, maintenance, utilities, HVAC, and automation systems.
- Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, OEE, and operational excellence practices.
- Experience in CAPEX planning, cost optimization, productivity improvement, and manpower rationalization.
- Experience in technology transfer and coordination with international/OEM teams.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Knowledge of EHS, compliance, and industrial relations practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
